About the Presentations

From 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Dr. Stephen Sillett and Dr. Robert Van Pelt will show slides and talk about their latest research projects.

Scientific investigation of the world's tallest forests-Dr. Sillett

This presentation will be a summary of ongoing research in coast redwood, giant sequoia, and Eucalyptus regnans forests.  The two major goals of this work are 1) to unravel the structural determinants of wood production as trees approach maximum height and 2) to determine likely responses of the tallest trees to a changing climate.

Epiphytic communities in temperate rain forest canopies-Dr. Van Pelt

This presentation will be a celebration of epiphytic communities in temperate rain forests. We will start with a bit of history and global perspective and then will move to a detailed study on the succession, structural development, and biomass of epiphytic communities in the rain forests of Olympic National Park.
